Welcome to Passu

A couple of days ago, together with some Pakistani trekkers, we had a benefit dinner in Karimabad, Hunza where we raised funds for a local porter who got injured while guiding a group of tourists in the mountains.

The next day, we had a bicycle ride from Gulmit to Passu to help raise funds for the local community and a mountaineering guide who lost his life in an avalanche during an expedition. At the end of our ride, we went to the Women Center in Passu, and to support them, bought handmade souvenirs.

Though it was a short ride, cycling the Karakoram Highway after five years brought back a lot of memories. After cycling across 43 countries, I can safely say that it is indeed one of the most magnificent rides in the world.

Passu Cones

Nowadays, I am documenting stories of porters, climbers, and local community members of Gilgit Baltistan, which I will be sharing over the next few weeks.

With Women Artisans in Passu

Soon we will be launching an online fundraiser where you all could help us support the people of the mountains.
